The top of the sample builder site on a phone
  1. Hours and phone number on every page.
  2. Builders and roofers plus the town, in the headline.
  3. Trade bodies and fixed quotes in the first screen, the two things people check before a big job.
What the sample builder does, on a phone
  1. Extensions, roofing and renovations, each with a photo of a job like theirs.
How a job works on the sample builder site, on a phone
  1. Five plain steps from first visit to handover. A big job feels less risky when people can see them.
  2. A fixed written quote as step two.
  3. Building control sorted, because people don’t always know they need it.

  1. Roofing gets its own section, so people looking for a roofer find it.

What a builder’s or roofer’s website needs

An extension or a new roof is a big decision. People want to see work like theirs, know you belong to a proper trade body and understand how the job will run. A good site shows all three.

Finished jobs, by type

Extensions, re-roofs, knock-throughs and conversions, each captioned. People look for a job like theirs.

Your trade bodies and numbers

FMB, NFRC or TrustMark: show the ones you belong to with your membership numbers. Customers can then look you up in each body’s own directory.

How the job runs

Visit, quote, building control, the build, handover. A big job feels less risky when people can see the steps.

Fixed quotes

If you give fixed written quotes, say so plainly. Costs creeping up is one of the things people worry about most.

Building control and paperwork

Say that you sort building control sign-off where it’s needed. People don’t always know it’s required.

Roof repairs as well as re-roofs

Storm damage and slipped slates bring urgent calls. A Call button that stays on screen catches them.

The towns you cover

A list of towns on every plan. On Standard you also get a page for each of up to 3 towns and on Growth up to 6, which helps you show up in each one.

Trade bodies and schemes worth showing

Building and roofing have more trade bodies than most trades. Customers worried about cowboy builders do check them. Show the ones you hold with your numbers and we link to where they can be checked.

FMB (Federation of Master Builders)

The trade association for small and medium-sized building firms across the UK, set up in 1941. Its members are vetted and their work inspected.

The FMB has a public Find a Builder search. We show the logo with your membership details and link to it.

NFRC (National Federation of Roofing Contractors)

A trade association for roofing contractors. It also runs a Heritage Register for roofers who work on older buildings.

NFRC's public Find a Roofer directory lists its approved contractor members. We link your badge to it.

NFRC Competent Person Scheme (CompetentRoofer)

A roofing scheme that lets members in England and Wales self-certify roof refurbishment work to building regulations, so the customer doesn't need a separate building control application for it.

We show the scheme badge and say plainly that you can self-certify, in the steps of how a re-roof runs.

TrustMark

The government endorsed quality scheme for work in and around the home. Registered businesses are vetted and commit to good customer service.

TrustMark has a public Find a Tradesperson search. We show the badge and link to it.

How people choose a builder or roofer

Big jobs start months before anyone rings. People look at extensions on their street, save photos and search things like “single storey extension” or “flat roof replacement” plus their town. By the time they ask for quotes, they've already judged you on your photos, your trade bodies and whether you seem organised.

Roofing has two kinds of customer. Some are planning a re-roof or a new flat roof. Others have water coming through the ceiling tonight. The first want photos and guarantees. The second want your number and to know you cover their area.

Weather and lead times

Storms bring a wave of roof repair calls, so a short notice on the home page saying you're taking emergency repairs, or that you're full, saves you hours on the phone. Many people plan extensions over winter for a spring start, so autumn is when your gallery and quote form do the most work.

If you're booked months ahead, say so. A waiting list tells people you're in demand and filters out the ones who need it done next week.

What to send us

Photos of each job at three stages: the start, the structure going up and the finished room or roof. Tell us the materials too, like natural slate, EPDM rubber or GRP fibreglass, because those are the words people search with.

If you work on chapels, farmhouses or older stone buildings, say so. If your customers speak Welsh, a Welsh version of the site is £150 from your Welsh text.

How the costs compare

A website for a builder or roofer costs around £900 to £3,300 in the first year from a freelancer, £2,500 or more from an agency, or £99 a month on our Growth plan for up to 10 pages. Builders usually need more pages than most trades, so check what the price covers.

Questions builders ask

All questions

Can the site show my FMB or NFRC membership?

Yes. We show the logo with your membership number. Where the body has a public directory, we link to it.

I’m booked up for months. Do I need a website?

Use it to pick your work: the jobs you want more of and the areas you want to work in. It can also tell people your lead times, so you get fewer calls you can’t take.

Can I add new jobs to the gallery?

Yes. Send us the photos. On Standard and Growth that comes out of your monthly changes. On Starter, a quick update like this counts as your one small change for the month. Anything bigger is £45 an hour.

Is Hafod Building & Roofing a real business?

No. It’s a sample design we made to show what a builder’s site could look like. The photos are generated, not real jobs.

Do you only build sites for builders?

No. We build them for tradespeople and local businesses of all kinds. This page is about what a builder or roofer needs.

Can I show the guarantees I give?

Yes. Tell us what guarantee you give on each kind of job and we show it in plain words. We only show guarantees you actually give.

Can the site cover both building and roofing?

Yes. Starter and Standard have 3 to 5 pages, enough for building and roofing to have their own. Growth has up to 10, for a page per type of job. Extra pages are £50 each.

Do you need my trade body numbers before you start?

It helps, so send them in the order form. If a membership is still going through, we leave it off until it's confirmed.

Ready when you are. It takes about ten minutes to order.

From £39 a month, plus £199 setup.
